Shoe Essay - My Life as a Shoe
One day I was sitting on a shelf at Big Five. I felt like I had been there for 5 years. I was in the back corner of the store on the bottom shelf where it was dark and cold. Nobody could see me. After I had been there for a month, someone finally took me off the shelf. He took me out of the store and right when we got home he put sweaty, weird looking things in my head. He called these his feet. The smell was intoxicating and it made me faint. He tied my hair together in a strange looking knot that almost ripped my hair out. I was so mad! The day after I got to his house I heard him talking about climbing Mount Everest. I got so excited because I'm named Everest. I couldn't wait to meet my long lost family. I was finally going home. Before we went he decided to put fuzzy tubes over his feet. They made me feel soft and like I had just eaten a huge marshmallow. A few days later we went to a big building with train tracks in the air above us. He went to these desks and talked to someone about a flight to Nepal. Then, we went to another desk where he took me off and put me on a moving floor. There were all sorts of colorful lights around me. Suddenly, I saw light coming from one end of the tunnel and I rolled out. He put me right back on his feet the second I got out of the tunnel. Next we went up a moving staircase to another platform. We got onto one of those trains. It smelled like rotten eggs as we shot across the tracks. Eventually we came to a stop which almost knocked me into the air. When we stopped I felt so dizzy that I could barf. Once we got out I saw what they called a plane. By the time we got on the plane it was dark. I was just starting to doze off when we got launched like a rocket up into the air. It felt like my guts had fallen out of my mouth. My brain rattled around like a rock tumbler. Eventually it mellowed out and I didn’t feel like my brain was going to explode. When we got there we left the airport and went to a lot of stores to buy ice axes and other supplies. Then we started up Everest and walked for 5 hours before we came to a stop. We spent the night surrounded by ice, snow and rock. I was exhausted and couldn’t wait to get to my family. I knew they were here somewhere. The next day we walked almost all day until the red bubbles in between his toes exploded. When it happened, he slipped and was dangling off the cliff with an ice axe. He pulled himself up and went to sit down on a rock for a break. He took me off and examined his feet. I started to slip down the side of the mountain into a big crevasse where I bumped into another Everest shoe. It was the exact same model as me. I had finally found my home.
